Platinum Jubilee is approaching -Dundas Little League History
We are coming up on our 70th birthday! Dundas Little League began with a group of volunteers in 1954.
Almost 70 years ago, Dundas Little League was born!
Land was secured from the town and a ball diamond was constructed on King Street East in the late 1950’s.
In 1960, this park was named after the late Mickey Martino, one of a number of early leaders in the Dundas Little League baseball community. In later years, a T-ball diamond was built at Kinsmen Park on Mercer St. and renamed Edwards Memorial Park after former Dundas Mayor Bert Edwards.
In 1965, Dundas hosted the very first Little League Canadian Championship. Numerous Provincial and National Championships have been hosted by Dundas Little League at Martino Park with the most recent in 1987 and 1994. In 2023 we are hosting the Minor District championship.
We are looking for stories and pictures to help celebrate our past, and start gathering anything you have, now, to get a head start on our festivities. If you have any ideas or looking to connect with certain people, we want to hear from you too.
If you have any stories, memories, pictures or simply want to connect, please email us at [email protected]. Towards the end of the year, we will start compiling everything to get ready for Opening day 2024, which will be a great party for our Platinum Jubilee!!!!
